Public Interests and the Legitimation of Global Governance Actors

Notions of public interests or common goods present a major reference point for the legitimation global governance and governors, yet they are rarely subject to closer analysis. After highlighting how connection plays shared pivotal role in legitimating private actors alike, this article suggests an expanded understanding as consisting substantial element, individual interest-based procedural element. This allows us study framed, affected, disputed, shaped governance, governors (de)legitimized with certain notions interests. It sheds light on form (without reducing former latter vice versa), apparently neutral, technocratic, expert-driven ideas matter (global) politics, all elements imbued power inequalities. The concept is based integration literature input, throughput, output legitimacy moralist, empiricist, models from political philosophy. Ultimately, explicating often implicit formative notion argues that does not only depend whether cater Rather, question frame affect substantial, interest-based, interests, thereby constructing publics politics.
